Profile and Head Study
BENEXT BESOM
‘Bruno’ to his friends
DoB 5th December, 1967.
By Timothy Nig Nog x Benext Pamarandy Christabella.
Owned by the late Mr. John Rogers and his wife.
Breeder Mr. And Mrs. Ken Bailey, owners of the ‘Benext’ affix.
No doubt everyone could look back and pick out a Staffordshire Bull Terrier that they particularly liked and admired. Benext Besom was one such Stafford from 1960’s that I can remember well. His owner John Rogers was one of the London contingent from the Southern Counties, who I came to know and like and he would always have a story or bit of banter.
Benext Besom was a Stafford that never reached the acclaim he deserved in my opinion. He did some winning at shows, but I think his quality was overlooked. One of his admirers was the late Staffordshire Bull Terrier enthusiasts and author Mr Ed Reid, who was also a friend of John’s and included a picture of Benext Besom in one of his books.
The following pictures outlines his head profile and overall conformation. He was a well balanced Stafford, approximately 16 inches and 38lbs, with a very typical clean head and expression. He had all the other requirements to make him typical of the breed as can be seen, but more importantly was a great character and a very sound Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
Ken Bailey his breeder owned and bred some very good Staffords, which included the famous Ch. Benext Beau and Benext Brutus, both can be seen in my Early Memories page. Benext Beau was also in the pedigree of the very good Ch. Angelstaff Blue Max.
