From the past history of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the modern dog draws its character of indomitable courage, high intelligence, and tenacity. This coupled with its affection for its friends, and children in particular, its off-duty quietness and trustworthy stability, makes it a foremost all-purpose dog. (1948 KC Breed Standard)
My family have owned Stafford’s since the 1950’s, the first being ‘Nell’ Baker’s Girl, a very nice fawn bred by Fred Clark. The others were ‘Chief’ and ‘Mick’ bred by David Wheat, who owned the Longtonion Affix. These are highlighted in the ‘Early Memories’ page.
The Edgeworth affix was taken from the name of my uncles bitch Edgeworth Bess, born in 1962.
She produced a litter in 1967, sired by Ch. Rapparee Renegade, which contained the first Stafford I owned, Game Bess, shown below.
This was the year I first joined the Southern Counties Staffordshire Bull Terrier Society and started showing ‘Bess.’ Later I joined the East Anglian SBT Club just after it was established.
I have enjoyed owning this remarkable breed ever since, which my own children have grown up with and have been an important part of every day family life.

Welcome to the site, which I am in the process of updating.
Some of the pages in the site are related to the breeds history, ‘Lines and Families’ and the famous foundation Stafford’s seen in the ‘Archive’ section. I particularly like to remember these pillars of the breed, which produced the Stafford’s we have today.
However, that does not stop me appreciating many of the high quality Stafford’s of the present day that will play their part in the future development of the breed.
